Calm, slow breathing puts us in a state of calm and digestion, i.e. it activates the parasympathetic nervous system. Slow, conscious breathing increases resistance to physical and psychological stress. It is one of the ways to manage stress.
Breathing is more than just providing the body with oxygen. It is a method with enormous potential for health and longevity, improving emotional state, sleep, reducing long-term pain, improving movement, and reducing the occurrence of colds and other chronic diseases.
