Exhibition "City" - paintings by the art studio "Rainbow"
The new exhibition "City" by the art studio "Rainbow" is presented in the spaces of Birštonas Kurhaus, inviting visitors to a journey of colors and motifs in urban space. This exhibition is a subjective look at the city. The studio members exhibit various images of the city: from realistic silhouettes of buildings and fragments of city parks to more abstract moods that reveal the rhythm, bustle or silence of the city. The works are made using acrylic and oil painting techniques, which allow them to convey different layers of the city - its shape, light, atmosphere and internal pulsation.
The theme of “City” was not chosen by chance – for several years now, the art studio “Rainbow” has been organizing symposiums and plein airs “Kaunas in Painting, Painting in Kaunas” at the Kaunas Cultural Center, choosing a different theme every year and seeking to reveal the city’s history, nature, architecture, culture or other important layers on canvas. The works created during these meetings, full of authentic Kaunas moods and discoveries, are also included in this exhibition – they become a link between artistic exploration, everyday life in the city and the tradition of creative study.
This exhibition is part of the year-long cycle of commemorating the 80th anniversary of the art studio "Rainbow". Every month, the studio's exhibitions travel to new spaces, and the collection presented at the Birštonas Kurhaus marks another creative highlight of the anniversary year. The city as a theme symbolizes movement, change, layers and stories, which the studio itself, which has existed for eight decades, preserves.
The art studio "Rainbow", uniting a group of amateur artists, was founded in 1946 in the then Kaunas Trade Unions Culture Palace. At that time, it was called the Visual Arts Studio, and its founder and first director was the artist Jonas Buračas. In 1976, for its long-term work and creative pursuits, the first studio in Lithuania was awarded the title of folk art studio "Rainbow". Over the eight decades, the studio has been led by many artists: J. Janulis, J. Gaučas, B. Grigaras, V. Lukėnas, V. Dlugoborskis, G. Kuprytė-Motiejūnienė, J. Januškaitė-Tendziagolskienė, A. Lukštas, E. Saladžius, N. Vrubliauskaitė-Liutkevičienė, G. Aleknavičiūtė, L. Trimonis, J. Dovydaitytė, A. Vandytė. The most prominent and longest-serving director was the artist E. Survila. Currently, the studio is headed by A. Janušaitė-Vitkūnienė.
The exhibition "City" is an invitation to listen to the urban rhythm, discover the aesthetics of the city and notice the beauty in places we pass by without noticing every day. We invite you on a journey through the city, created with colors, strokes and the creative energy of the studio community.
