about

Vilija Čiapaitė is a Lithuanian folk artist, watercolor and gouache master, writer and illustrator, who combines light, feeling and imagination in her work. Born in Kalvarija, she has lived and created in Prienai since 1979. Since 2022, she has been granted the status of a Lithuanian folk artist.
Over more than four decades of creative work, the artist has held over a hundred solo exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. Her works create a unique, easily recognizable world in which the beauty of nature, light, emotion and imagination merge. Not only the theme of flowers is important in the author's work, but also subtle color transitions, the play of light and emotional coloring.
Watercolor and gouache in Vilija's hands become not only painting techniques, but also a language that tells about the fragility of life, beauty and the inner world of man. Free strokes, rich colors and a sensitive relationship with nature transform everyday motifs into emotional symbols. She does not become just what she sees - she conveys the feeling that the world awakens in her heart.
Her constant creative search and courage to experiment have brought her international recognition. In 2025, she won four awards at the prestigious American Art Awards – 3rd and 4th places, and 2nd and 4th places at the World Art Awards.
In 2026, one of her works won 1st place at the World Art Awards competition, and three more works were awarded 3rd, 4th, and 5th places, once again confirming the uniqueness of the author's work in the international art context.
In addition to painting, Vilija Čiapaitė writes and illustrates historical-educational books for children about the Prienai region, its history, legends and mythical characters. In them, historical narrative intertwines with creative imagination, and art becomes a form of knowledge, light and love for the native land.
The artist is constantly searching for new ways of expression, experimenting with techniques and believing that creativity has no limits. Her life and creative credo is “Don’t stop, go deeper, fantasize and never say “No”. This attitude is reflected in each of her works – inviting the viewer and reader to discover beauty, inspiration and inner light.
