Exhibition "Time"
– paintings by the art studio "Rainbow"
The exhibition "Time" by the art studio "Rainbow" presented at the Birštonas Cultural Center invites you to look at this concept from various angles. Time is the change of seasons, the rhythm of nature, moments in human life, memories and visions. The works exhibited at the exhibition reveal different interpretations of time: from landscapes depicting nature in different seasons to more abstract works in which time becomes an inner experience, emotion or philosophical thought. The works are made in acrylic or oil painting technique, and each of them testifies to the authors' creative quest and personal relationship with the subject.
This exhibition marks a special milestone – with it , we are starting a year-long celebration of the 80th anniversary of the art studio "Rainbow" at the Birštonas Cultural Center. Each month, the studio's exhibitions will travel to a different space, inviting you to explore the creativity, community, and traditions that have been alive for eight decades.
The art studio "Rainbow", uniting a group of amateur artists, was founded in 1946 in the then Kaunas Trade Unions Culture Palace. At that time, it was called the Visual Arts Studio, and its founder and first director was the artist Jonas Buračas. In 1976, for its long-term work and creative pursuits, the first studio in Lithuania was awarded the title of folk art studio "Rainbow". Over the eight decades, the studio has been led by many artists: Jonas Janulis, Juozas Gaučas, Balys Grigaras, Vytautas Lukėnas, Vytautas Dlugoborskis, Genovaitė Kuprytė-Motiejūnienė, Janina Januškaitė-Tendziagolskienė, Algirdas Lukštas, Edmundas Saladžius, Nijolė Vrubliauskaitė-Liutkevičienė, Gražina Aleknavičiūtė, Laimutis Trimonis, Jolanta Dovydaitytė, Asta Vandytė. The most prominent and longest-serving director was the artist Eugenijus Survila. The studio is currently headed by Agnietė Janušaitė-Vitkūnienė.
The exhibition "Time" is not only a presentation of creativity, but also an invitation to stop, look at the past, feel the present and consider the future. We invite you on a journey through colors, shapes and thoughts, in which time becomes a part of art.
