Stasys Paškevičius, a radio electronics engineer, businessman, state-recognized artist, one of the important people of the Sąjūdis, has devoted many years to photography. Photography for Stasys is not a hobby, but a way of life, or rather, a unique testimony of life, reflecting the change of time, people and their destinies. Stasys is able to capture a moment that reveals a person’s spiritual state, their soul, manner, and hobbies. He is one of the best masters of portrait photography in Lithuania. Those portraits are very diverse: some are “serious”, almost official, others are playful, revealing the charm of a personality, and still others are caricatured. Their subtle irony causes amazement, allowing one to admire the photographer’s skill. The photo series “Portraits of Friends” opens up a whole gallery of famous and ordinary Lithuanian people: artists, politicians, friends, acquaintances with whom he worked, communicated, or simply met. It is both an artistic and documentary testimony of many lives, a colorful gallery of the people of Lithuania during the period of independence.
