Children can enjoy fun reading throughout the summer

During the summer, we will spend our leisure hours reading, reciting, following fairy tales, staging them, creating collage paintings, drawing, participating in quizzes, playing games and solving riddles. While spending time meaningfully and in a friendly manner, getting to know the world of literature and folklore, talking about our city, we will get acquainted with the work of Lithuanian and foreign writers, and most of all - with the books of the poet, playwright, translator, and lyricist Ramutė Skučaitė, thus commemorating the writer's 95th anniversary.

Summer readings are intended not only for children from Birštonas and its surroundings, but also for those vacationing in the resort. We invite everyone - families, grandparents - to the Birštonas Public Library, Birštonas Vienkiemis and Nemajūnai branches. Audio readings of poems and fairy tales will take you to an artistic, beautiful and warm world, where good prevails and evil is always defeated. The world is deep and mysterious. Sometimes it gives miracles and joy, sometimes it brings disappointment. Let's enjoy the summer warmth, blooming nature together, meet at reading events, where you can get to know and express your feelings and emotions in creative activities and education.

Birštonas Public Library:
June 22 (Monday) 4 p.m. literary afternoon "Visit in the Kingdom of Words". Readings of poems and fairy tales. Education "Creating Stories", games.
June 23 (Tuesday) 4 p.m. "Rasos". Readings of legends, tales, poems about Midsummer. Education "Weaving Midsummer wreaths".
July 1st (Wednesday) 4 p.m. literary afternoon "It's nice to learn something." About synonyms, antonyms and something else interesting. Education "My name", games.
July 8th (Wednesday) at 4 p.m. literary afternoon "What did the summer hand say?". Readings of poems and fairy tales about plants and animals, role-playing, riddles, games.
August 4th (Tuesday) 4 p.m. literary afternoon "Songs of Silence". Poems about silence and music. Education "Rain Pipes", games.
August 5th (Wednesday) 4 p.m. literary afternoon "Who am I?" Readings of poems and fairy tales. Education "A bird of happiness for you and me", riddles, games.

In the Birštonas single-family subdivision:
June 10 (Wednesday) 10:30 a.m. Audio reading and discussion of Ramutė Skučaitė's book "The Owl Knows." Education "What do colors dream about?".
August 21 (Friday) 10:30 a.m. Audio reading of Ramutė Skučaitė's book "Accept What Belongs to You." Education "It's Worth Thinking Every Time."

In the Nemajuņi division:
June 18 (Thursday) at 11 a.m. literary afternoon "Chirping poems and colorful birds". Reading poems. Education "Colorful birds".
July 15 (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. literary afternoon "July after July". Poetry readings. Education "My most beautiful summer day".

We also invite everyone to participate in the “Summer with a Book” challenge. The nationwide reading promotion challenge invites people of all ages to read at least three selected books according to certain topics and tasks and register them independently or at the nearest library. Participants who are willing to participate in the challenge and complete it will be awarded valuable prizes at the end of the competition. Winners will be selected by drawing lots. The reading challenge begins on June 1, 2026 and ends on August 31. It is organized by the Association of County Public Libraries together with the Association of Lithuanian Municipal Public Libraries. The “Summer with a Book” activities are funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
