about
The concert "On the Path of Čiurlionis" of the BIRŠTONAS SUMMER MUSIC festival will feature the young pianist Povilas Ušinskis, who consistently delves into the work of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and presents it to the Lithuanian and foreign audience.
The title of the concert speaks not only about the music being performed. It is also the pianist's own journey – from his first encounters with Čiurlionis' works to his ever-deeper knowledge of their world, from his student performances to international competitions and concert stages.
In Povilas Ušinskis' program, Čiurlionis' music will unfold alongside the great European romantic tradition. Echoes of Lithuanian folk melodies, natural intuitions, memories and inner concentration will meet with romantic enthusiasm, drama, reflections on loneliness and virtuoso piano expression.
This is music that invites you to listen slowly. It is not only sound that is important, but also silence, not only a bright emotional breakthrough, but also what remains unsaid. The chamber environment of the Birštonas Kurhaus is particularly suitable for such a concert - here you can hear the most subtle nuances of the piano and follow the musical story created by the young performer.
Povilas Ušinskis actively participates in the concert life of Šiauliai, has performed with the Šiauliai City Symphony Orchestra "Camerata Solaris" and the Šiauliai City Wind Orchestra on several occasions. In his concerts, he presents his hometown and the work of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, and is invited to perform it at festivals in Lithuania and abroad.
In 2025, the pianist became the winner of the XIV Riga International Young Pianists Competition and received a scholarship to participate in the tenth piano academy “Feuerwerk Einbeck 2026” and its master classes. The artistic director of the academy is pianist Gintaras Januševičius. Povilas has won more than ten awards in Lithuanian competitions.
For his artistic achievements and promoting the name of Šiauliai, he was awarded the Šiauliai UNESCO Club Prize in 2024. The pianist is also the laureate of the Šiauliai City Young Artist Scholarship in 2024 and a nominee for the “Guardian Angel” award of the Order of St. Casimir in 2023. In 2026, he graduated from Šiauliai Saulius Sondeckis Arts Gymnasium, where he studied piano in the class of Raimonda Sližienė.
"On the Path of Čiurlionis" is an invitation from the young pianist to venture to where Lithuanian musical memory meets European romanticism, and familiar sounds can each time open up in a new way.
