about

The BIRŠTONAS SUMMER MUSIC festival invites you to the recital "Sighs and Passions" by pianist Šviesė Čepliauskaitė - a program in which the poetics of Romanticism, virtuoso brilliance, and the world of feelings come together.
The evening's program includes the works of two great 19th-century musical figures, Fryderyk Chopin and Franz Liszt. The program will feature Chopin's Ballade No. 2 in F major, Polish songs arranged for piano by Liszt, the third piece from the cycle "Liebesträume" ("Dreams of Love"), the concert etude "Un sospiro" ("A Sigh"), the concert paraphrase "Rigoletto" and one of the most impressive Transcendental Etudes.
A special place in the program is occupied by the pianist's own Fantasy on the Themes of the Music of Duke Antanas Henrikas Radvila to Goethe's "Faust". The name of the Vilnius-born nobleman, politician, composer and cellist Antanas Henrikas Radvila is associated with one of the most interesting pages in the history of European Romanticism. Fascinated by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's "Faust", he was the first to begin composing music for this work and spent many years perfecting it in communication with the author himself. Radvila's compositions are considered the first operatic interpretation of Goethe's "Faust". Šviesė Čepliauskaitė's fantasy recalls the rarely mentioned connection between Lithuanian and European cultural history today.
Šviesė Čepliauskaitė actively performs in Lithuania and abroad, organizes solo recitals and chamber music programs, participates in international festivals, conducts master classes, is a member of the evaluation committees of international competitions, and is an associate professor at the Vytautas Magnus University Academy of Music.
The pianist's concerts are distinguished by a special atmosphere. With her stories, she introduces the listeners to the world of the works she performs, revealing the circumstances of the composers' lives, creative ideas and emotional context. Therefore, her recitals become not only a performance of music, but also a living story about the works, people and their time.
A significant part of Šviesė Čepliauskaitė's repertoire consists of the works of Fryderyk Chopin. She was the first in Lithuania to record all of the composer's waltzes, released the CDs "F. Chopin. Valsai", "CHOPIN LT", "MK Oginskis. Atsisievikinimas su Tėvyne", "SENSIBILE", and also recorded works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Fryderyk Chopin and Karol Szymanowski for the Lithuanian Radio.
For her services to culture, the pianist was awarded the Polish Order of Merit "Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej" and the Golden Cross of Merit of the President of the Republic of Poland.
Šviesė Čepliauskaitė will tell the audience of Birštonas Kurhaus about love and longing, dreams and creative passion - not only with words, but primarily with music. "Sighs and Passions" is a romantic, virtuosic festival evening full of unexpected historical connections.
