Photoplenary in Ignalina Region "Ether Whirlwinds 3" brought together foreign artists
The international photography plein-air exhibition "Ether Whirlpools 3", which began in mid-August at the Ažvinčiai Art Center in Ignalina district, brought together artists from Lithuania, Latvia, Georgia and Ukraine for the third time. For a week, seven professional photographers create new works, searching not only for an interesting shot, but also for the connection between the invisible ether, local light, Lithuanian nature, man and place.
This year's "Ether Whirls" includes photographers and artists from Ukraine Tati Frank and Alexey Tseitlin, Paata Vardanashvili from Georgia, Ilze Onzule from Latvia, as well as Lithuanians Rimvydas Vaitkevičius, Ričardas Šileika, and plein air organizer Marius Abramavičius Neboisia.
It is planned to create more than 60 photographic works during the plein air. However, the numbers are not the most important thing here - what is more important is what happens when the artist appears in a new place for a while, walks new paths, talks to people he has not yet met, who become familiar and allow the environment to become a part of his creation.

Plein air – artists from four countries

Tati Frank and Alexey Tseitlin are artists and photographers originally from Ukraine, living and working in Lithuania. In their work, they pay a lot of attention to the person – their self-expression, emotions and relationship with themselves. They create personal and artistic photo shoots about self-expression and self-love. For the artists, not only the aesthetic image is important, but also the person’s history, state, ability to open up in front of the camera and freely express themselves. Their photography becomes not only an image, but also an encounter with a person.

Paata Vardanashvili is a professional photographer, traveler and certified mountain guide from Georgia. He has won the title of “Best Mountain Guide” by the Georgian Guides Association, and in 2023 was recognized as the best photographer. Travel, mountain landscapes, cultural heritage and people's lives form an important part of his work. P. Vardanashvili is also the author of several books, creates video stories and has been organizing the folklore festival “Chevsurai Evening” in Tbilisi for twenty years.

Ilze Onzule is a Latvian photographer who began her creative career in 2019 and has been the head of the photographers' association "Stāstnīca" since 2021. She mostly creates portraits, perceiving photography as a way to meet a person and look into their inner world. In her portraits, a person is not just a model - they become a carrier of life and their own story. I.Onzule has held three solo exhibitions, and her latest exhibition "Meet" is traveling around Latvian and Lithuanian exhibition spaces.

Ričardas Šileika is a photographer, poet, writer and constantly scratching the surface of everyday life. He describes himself as a sandman, ironist, postcard writer, ironist, minutiae and tinkerer, and additionally – a photographer and writer. Small, random, often unnoticed details are important in his work, in which time, people and the environment unexpectedly open up.

Rimvydas Vaitkevičius is a photographer living in the Zarasai region, whose creative gaze focuses on place, people, and memory. Photography becomes a way for him to notice the environment, its people, and everyday moments, preserving what can disappear over time.

Marius Abramavičius Neboisia is an artist, photographer, poet, one of the creators of the Užupis Republic and the initiator of "Ether Whirlwinds". He participates in this stage of the plein air not only as an organizer, but also as one of the photographers, together with other creators seeking a unique relationship with the Ignalina region.
